Teacher charged with pandering

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Barrow County high school teacher was arrested last week after he allegedly tried to pay an undercover officer for sex at a Duluth hotel.

Apalachee High School teacher Thomas Michael Wallace, 39, reportedly responded to the Gwinnett County officer's online advertisement -- part of an undercover pandering sting -- on Thursday, arranging a meeting at the Sun Suites at 3720 Steve Reynolds Boulevard.

"The suspect agreed to meet the officer at a hotel, where he offered her money for sex," a police report said.

Wallace, an assistant football and wrestling coach in his first year at Apalachee, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor pandering Friday morning.

According to Gwinnett County Jail records, he was released on $1,300 bond.

Barrow County Schools Superintendent Wanda Creel said Monday that Wallace has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the matter is being investigated.
