HOSCHTON — Mountain View threw a scare into Peachtree Ridge, but the top-seeded Lions weathered a scrappy effort by the Bears to post a 74-63 win in the opening round of the Region 7-AAAAA tournament Tuesday night at Mill Creek.
Mountain View trailed by as many as 20 points midway through the third quarter before rallying to cut the deficit to nine points at 66-57 with just under two minutes to play. However, Mountain View couldn’t climb any closer as the Lions hit 4 of 7 free throws in the final 1:12 to come away with the win. Richie Everette led Peachtree Ridge with 20 points, while Brandon Jack added 13 points. Others that added in the balanced attack for Peachtree Ridge were Shaq Morris (12 points, seven rebounds), Moe Armistead (12 points, five assists) and Corey Heyward (11 points). Troy Taylor put in 18 points to lead the Bears, while Caleb Grant followed with 11 points and eight rebounds. The win earned the Lions a spot in the upcoming Class AAAAA state tournament and puts Peachtree Ridge in Friday’s tournament semifinals where they will play the North Gwinnett at 8:30 p.m.More like this story
