Tech opens season with Thursday game

After announcing the dates of its football team’s non-Atlantic Coast Conference games last week, Georgia Tech officials released the dates of the remainder of the Yellow Jackets’ 2011 schedule Monday.

Tech (6-7 in 2010) opens up 2011 at Bobby Dodd Stadium with a Thursday night game against Western Carolina on Sept. 1.

• A return game with Kansas, whom the Jackets lost to in Lawrence, Kan., last September. The Jayhawks visit Bobby Dodd Stadium on Sept. 17.

• Tech opens up its ACC schedule a week later on Sept. 24, also at home, against North Carolina.

• The Jackets will have a second Thursday night game on Nov. 10, when Virginia Tech comes to Bobby Dodd Stadium for an 8 p.m. game that will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

• Tech closes out the regular season at home against archrival Georgia on Nov. 26.
