BRASELTON — A fast-moving grass fire burned five acres and caused exterior damage to five homes Saturday on the 5400 block of Autumn Flame Drive at Chateau Elan, officials said.
The fire was accidentally caused by a homeowner using a portable fire pit, said Capt. Thomas Rutledge, spokesman for Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services. Firefighters were challenged by dry and windy conditions, but they were able to contain and extinguish the blaze, Rutledge said. The damage to the homes included broken windows, destroyed landscaping and soot damage to siding. Some air conditioning units, several in-ground electrical transformers and cable and phone boxes were also damaged. No injuries were reported.More like this story
