DULUTH -- A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, an event that commemorates the start of construction for a new senior center at W.P. Jones Park on Pleasant Hill Road.
Officials said the center, which is scheduled to be open by August, will include 2,400 square feet of activity space.
Duluth Parks and Recreation Director Kathy Marelle said the center will serve more than 300 "Fabulous Over Fifty members" and will also serve as an events rental facility on evenings and weekends.
Marelle also said that construction bids for the center came in low enough to buy equipment and furnishings for the facility as well.
On Dec. 12, the Duluth City Council awarded a $548,458 contract to Renaissance Building Construction.
For more information about the center or the groundbreaking ceremony, email Marelle at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 678-417-9269.
W.P. Jones Park is located at 3750 Pleasant Hill Road.
