GAB: Football team hits weights for charity

SUWANEE -- Members of the Collins Hill High School football program donated $37,000 this year to help families in Gwinnett County through Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

For the 15th consecutive year, young athletes hit the weights during their annual Lift-a-Thon.

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is a not-for-profit provider of pediatric care for children facing serious illnesses and medical conditions.

Kevin Reach, head football coach of the Collins Hill Eagles, said he is "proud and impressed by the teamwork and commitment the football team put in to make this year's Lift-a-Thon an even bigger success than last year. Much more than a great exercise in community service, this really shows what can be accomplished by focusing on a cause beyond one's own interest."

The contribution from the Collins Hill Eagles was presented to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta recently through Children's Miracle Network at the Collins Hill-Peachtree Ridge football game on Oct. 7.

Delta Community Credit Union provided a matching gift "to play a part in fueling (the team's) drive to give back" according to Rick Foley, president and CEO.

"Our matching gift program not only provides funds for local schools in our communities, but also aims to educate young adults about healthy financial habits and, through philanthropy, becoming builders of their own communities," Foley said.

NORCROSS -- A local man recently won a European vacation and $5,000 in travelers checks as part of a sweepstakes sponsored by a technology solutions company.

Milner Inc. presented the prize to Hilton Sturisky during a ceremony last month in Norcross.

The European Vacation Sweepstakes was created to promote the use of Quick Response codes and generated a number of active business leads to illustrate the use of QR codes in business to business lead generation programs.

"I am thrilled to be the lucky winner of this trip and look forward to enjoying this experience with my wife," Sturisky said.

The sweepstakes, which ran from Sept. 1-30, was open to all Georgia residents. Participants were invited to download free AT&T code scanner applications and submit entries.

The sweepstakes was sponsored by AT&T Mobile Barcode Services, TriC Printing and Milner Inc.
