Rhodes Jordan Park reopens after renovation

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The playground and trails are open again at Lawrenceville's Rhodes Jordan Park.

After a long renovation process, officials today opened access to new picnic pavilions, basketball courts and a trail around the park's lake.

While the park remained open during the work, the popular playground and pavilions have been off limits for more than a year.

The $7.3 million project featured a new 1.1-mile paved trail and boardwalk surrounding the 23-acre lake in the park's center.

"Gwinnett County continues to deliver SPLOST projects approved by our citizens," Chairwoman Charlotte Nash said. "Rhodes Jordan Park's central location in Gwinnett County provides recreational opportunities for people of all ages."

The final piece of the work, a soccer complex, will open in the spring.

A once beautiful park has been turned into a concrete jungle.

I am constantly amazed at how many people complain when improvements are made to a park, obviously these folks have never lived in an area with no parks, namely Gwinnett 15 years ago.
