GWINNETT GAB: Foundation gives to two charities

NORCROSS -- The Associated Credit Union Foundation recently donated a combined total of $22,000 to the Norcross Co-op Ministry and the Quinn House located in Lawrenceville.

Quinn House Director Gene Brinkley, who accepted the organization's $11,000 donation, said it was a big help.

"Due to the unfortunate state of the economy and rising costs, we have struggled to fully fund many of our outreach programs. It's with this generous financial contribution and the many volunteer hours from ACU that we are able to close those gaps," Brinkley said.

The Quinn House provides housing for the homeless and offers a 40-day drug and alcohol rehabilitation program to any individual that needs help getting back on their feet. It's also a licensed food bank that assists families and senior citizens in need.

The Norcross Co-op Ministry aims to provide food, clothing, prescription medicine and financial assistance for those who may be in a crisis situation. The co-op also hosts programs like English for speakers of other languages, job searches, case management and referrals to other service providers in the county.

Norcross Co-op Director Shirley Cabe accepted the $11,000 donation on behalf of the organization.

She thanked ACU for the "generous donation. It will allow us to help so many in this community who are struggling to meet the basic needs of their families. This gift is truly a blessing."

The Associated Credit Union Foundation, which started in 2009, is an organization that "strives to promote the social and economic wellbeing for the community and the employees of companies served by Associated Credit Union."
