MYRTLE BEACH -- Diamond DeShields scored 25 points as Norcross advanced to the championship game of the Crescent Bank Holiday Classic with a 56-40 semifinal victory over Georgia rival Stephenson on Wednesday night.
The Blue Devils (7-2) will play defending champion Spring Valley of Columbia, S.C., in the title game at 2:15 p.m. today. Spring Valley (9-0) defeated Archbishop Carroll of Pennsylvania 55-43 in the other semifinal. DeShields also had 11 rebounds and three assists to pace win the win over Stephenson (9-2). Tori Carter scored 15 points and had seven steals, while Shayla Cooper had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Stephenson, which trailed just 23-22 at halftime, got 17 points and 12 rebounds from Kaliyah Mitchell. Xylina McDaniel scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Spring Valley in its semifinal win. Asia Dozier added 14 points. Norcross, the two-time defending Class AAAAA champ in Georgia, finished third in the Crescent Bank Holiday Classic last year.More like this story
