Government offices closed, trash pickup resumes over holidays

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett's government offices will close for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, but trash haulers are expected to continue their normal routes.

According to a press release, county offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday Dec. 26 for Christmas, but will resume regular hours Tuesday. Dec. 27.

The next week offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 2 for the New Year's Day holiday and will reopen the next day.

During the holidays, the government will continue "operations required for the comfort and safety of the citizens of the county," such as police and fire, and a Magistrate Judge will be on duty, the release said.

While trash pickup will not be impacted by the weekend holidays, the Gwinnett County Solid waste and Recyclings Call Center will be closed Dec. 23 - 26 and Jan. 2, but hauler call centers will be open. That contanct information can be found at www.gwinnettcounty.com.

Since county offices are closed for holidays (Not a problem) and the trash companies are always open so we can call them directly - why do we have to pay Gwinnett County a FULL year in advance for trash service again? What value do they add for the increase we paid??
