SNELLVILLE -- Eastside Medical Center's Heritage Center has officially launched its senior partial hospital program (PHP), a service aimed at improving the everyday functioning and mental health of senior citizens.
Hospital officials recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the start of the program at Heritage, located at 2160 Fountain Drive in Snellville.
"Our primary goal is to improve a person's level of functioning, reduce any symptoms of depression, anxiety, and grief issues, and promote good mental health," program director Ann Wilder said. "It's really an exciting opportunity for us."
PHP patients will come to the program as a transition from an inpatient stay or from the community. Each person is evaluated by a psychiatrist, nurse and counselor, Eastside spokeswoman Pattie Page said. Once assessments are completed, participants attend groups that focus on communication skills, problem solving and coping skills, interpersonal relationships and goal-setting.
Many participants attend five days a week.
"We are so proud of the work done at Heritage and look forward to growing this program to accommodate the needs of seniors in our community," Eastside CEO Kim Ryan said.
Those interested in the PHP program are asked to call its assessment center at 770-985-6470.
