WINDER -- You're in luck if your New Year's resolution includes walking shoes.
Fort Yargo State Park in Winder is encouraging folks to start the new year with a hike. Park leaders have planned a "First Day" new year hike -- a moderate, 3.5-mile excursion around the park's lake -- for Jan. 1.
The free hike (parking is $5) begins at 1 p.m. sharp. Snacks and bottled water are encouraged.
The 1,800-acre Fort Yargo, located a stone's throw from downtown Winder at 210 S. Broad St., offers a 260-acre lake, cottages and other amenities like a disc golf course.
Other events planned for 2012 include a Dirty Spokes-organized six-hour and nine-hour mountain bike races on May 5.
