SNELLVILLE -- Tom Beuglas is no stranger to success.

Before taking over the Archer wrestling program, Beuglas led Parkview to a dominant run at the county and state level.

Beuglas has brought that winning attitude to Archer.

In the program's third season, the Tigers claimed their first Gwinnett County championship on Saturday at Shiloh High School. The Tigers are the youngest program to ever win the county title.

The Tigers had 11 placers, including three champions, to score 219.5 points for the win.

"It feels good," Beuglas said. "At Parkview, it got to the point where everyone expected you to win all the time. At Archer, we're experiencing new things all the time, so it's fun. I like all the firsts."

Archer's win ends the dominance of Parkview and Collins Hill at the county tournament. The two schools had been the only teams to win the county championship since 1997, including the last three by Parkview.

"I think we're heading in the right direction," Beuglas said.

Archer beat second-place Brookwood (177.5 points), followed by North Gwinnett (162.5), Greater Atlanta Christian (157.5) and Peachtree Ridge (155). Brookwood's runner-up finish ties the program's highest finish ever.

"I was hoping we would be fighting for it," Brookwood head coach Chris Cicora said. "There were five teams going at it, so there was some parity."

Archer got county championships from DaQuan Olbert (120 pounds), Ernest Alexander (195) and Hunter McCleskey (220).

"Coach has been talking about this since Day 1, that we need to win this," Alexander said. "This is basically the best county in the state, so for us to win it means a lot."

Sam Bullard (113) and Grant Aycox (126) were runners-up for the Tigers, while Zach Wright (138) was third, Giovanni Fernandez (106) and Chaz Bentley (145) were fourth, Dan Myndresku (132) and Robbie Kwarteng (160) were fifth and Jalen McCorvey (152) was sixth.

"I'm pretty proud of our group," Beuglas said. "I think the kids are enjoying winning."

The county title was the fifth tournament victory for Archer this season.

"We're still a young school and haven't had a lot of success," Beuglas said. "Our trophy case is filling up with a lot of wrestling trophies."

Archer had the most county champions with three, but Peachtree Ridge and Shiloh each had two. The Lions got tournament titles from Nick Hoang (160) and Brandon Smith (145), while the Generals' county winners were Ryan Mosley (138) and Grady Bryant (171).

Collins Hill's Eric Ryll (106), North Gwinnett's Hunter Franklin (113), GAC's Caleb Bumpers (126), Parkview's Kamaal Shakur (132), Grayson's Nick Distasio (152), Buford's Chip Ness (182) and Broookwood's Blake Cunningham (285) were also county champs.
