BUFORD -- Whoever ran over and left a Buford pedestrian for dead early Thursday morning was driving a Saab 93 built between 1999 and 2002, police believe.
Investigators have determined a headlight lens recovered at the scene belonged to that specific Saab model, which could either be a convertible or hatchback with two or four doors, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
The hit-and-run happened about 2 a.m. on Ga. Highway 20 and killed Edward T. Harley, 61, of Buford. Ritter said the impact appeared to have occurred in the roadway, between Satellite Boulevard and South Lee Street, where skidmarks are visible.
Ritter said the suspect's vehicle will have damage to the driver's side headlight assembly. A window on the driver's side was also shattered upon impact, he said.
The vehicle that struck Harley was headed north on Ga. Highway 20 and was last seen turning right onto South Lee Street. The driver neglected to stop, police said.
Police ask anyone with information on the driver or vehicle to call the Gwinnett police Accident Investigation Hotline at 678-442-5653.
