CANTON -- The mayor of Canton is calling for a review of how police responded during the search for a missing 7-year-old girl who was later found dead.
Canton Mayor Gene Hobgood said he wanted an independent investigation into how Canton Police Chief Jeff Lance and his department handled the death of Jorelys Rivera. The girl's body was found in a trash bin three days after she went missing on Dec. 2 at her apartment complex. A 20-year-old maintenance worker has been charged in her killing. Hobgood said "we need to know if we're doing the right thing and could have done better to help us the next time." Lance told the station his critics were "throwing stones."More like this story
