Driver sought in pedestrian fatality

BUFORD -- Police are searching for a driver who fled the scene after hitting and killing a 61-year-old Buford man in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

Gwinnett police identified the hit-and-run victim Thursday as Edward T. Harley. He was struck about 2 a.m. while walking near Ga. Highway 20 between Satellite Boulevard and South Lee Street, police said. He died on scene.

The vehicle that struck Harley was headed north on Ga. Highway 20 and was last seen turning right onto South Lee Street. The driver neglected to stop, police said.

Investigators believe the vehicle has plastic missing from a headlight cover and a shattered side window. Its make and model are unknown, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.

"Investigators are diligently following up on all leads," he said.

Police ask anyone with information on the driver or vehicle to call the Gwinnett police Accident Investigation Hotline at 678-442-5653.
