A total of five Gwinnett County high school football players received scholarships this month from The Win for Wyn Foundation, operated by Mill Creek supporters Stephanie Scott and her husband Tommy, who coaches for the Hawks.
The college scholarships, at $1,000 each, were given to athletes who show strength, determination and character both on and off the field. The Scotts started the foundation in memory of their son Wyn, who was born prematurely and fought to live for 25 days.
The awards have been given yearly to Mill Creek athletes and this year's selections from the Hawks were Joey St. Claire-Everette, Jake Wiley and Patrick Waugh.
Win for Wyn also expanded to a county-wide program this year, with Grayson's Devin Gillespie and North Gwinnett's Tyler Nemec earning the grants.
