BUFORD -- Gwinnett police are searching for three air-conditioner thieves who swooped in and lifted two units from a Buford doctor's office Sunday -- and were caught on tape doing it, officials said.
The thieves targeted the South Bogan Road office about 7:30 p.m. and were gone in less than three minutes.
The office is equipped with high-quality security video that shows the suspects arrived in a vehicle resembling a Ford ambulance or utility truck with no markings, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith.
One suspect is seen cutting through power lines to both units, which threw showers of sparks and leaking gas that hardly seemed to phase him, Smith said.
Two more men helped the first suspect remove the units, and they all three bolted in the vehicle, Smith said.
Police describe the first suspect as a black or Hispanic man with a mustache and possible beard. The second man was white, while the third man's race could not be determined. No other description details have been released.
Smith said the case is being worked by the department's recently formed metal theft unit.
Detectives ask anyone with relevant information to call Gwinnett police at 770-513-5300, Crime Stoppers at 404-557-TIPS (8477) or to visit www.crimestoppersatlanta.org.
