SUWANEE -- The Georgia Department of Education has selected Level Creek Elementary as one of 26 Schools of Excellence, an honor according to Principal Nancy Kiel.
"I am ecstatic that the hard work and dedication of the Level Creek Elementary teachers and support staff are being recognized and appreciated," Kiel said.
Schools chosen for the elite list were selected for showing the greatest improvement or the highest achievement across the state.
Level Creek made the "greatest gains" list as a school "that demonstrated greatest continuous gains in student achievement for the past three years as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics."
For its achievement, Level Creek will receive a $1,000 check from Georgia Natural Gas for teacher staff development.
State School Superintendent John Barge said schools like Level Creek that made the cut "are showing that excellence can be achieved when they focus on providing a world-class education for their students."
Kiel said, "It takes a team effort to make a difference ... we do that here one child at a time, helping all our students achieve their personal best."
Level Creek joins a growing list of Gwinnett County schools that have been recognized as Georgia Schools of Excellence. Last year, Simpson Elementary and Parkview High were presented with the honor.
