New skatepark coming to Discover Mills

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Good news for athletes on wheels.

A new skatepark is coming to Discover Mills.

New Jersey-based Black Diamond Skatepark has scheduled the opening of its first Georgia location for early next month.

Featuring half pipes, quarter pipes, rails, ramps and stairsets, the 40,000 square-foot park will also have a large pro shop and a retail area offering skateboards, snowboards, surfboards, equipment and apparel.

Owner Dan McCollister said local athletes can expect good things from the new park.

"Black Diamond prides itself in providing the best park, the best products and the best prices all with incredible customer service," McCollister said. "We look forward to providing a safe, clean and fun environment for Discover Mills shoppers to enjoy."

McCollister said skateboards, BMX bikes, inline skates and scooters are all welcomed at the park, although not at the same times. Different sessions will be held for each sport.

Officials with Discover Mills welcome the new business, which will occupy the same space as the former ESPN X-Games skatepark.

"Discover Mills continues to be an ideal destination for families looking to enjoy our vast selection of name brand outlets, unmatched savings and incredible entertainment," said Karl Woodard, general manger at Discover Mills.

Black Diamond Skatepark is the latest addition to join Discover Mills' mix of more than 180 stores, restaurants and family entertainment venues.

Discover Mills is located at the junction of I-85 and Sugarloaf Parkway.
