Lilburn woman comes home to burglary in progress

LILBURN -- A Lilburn woman came home Monday to find a strange car in her driveway and a burglary in progress, police said.

Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said the woman arrived at her Rosser Court home at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, noticing the car and damage to her front door. As she called police from a neighbor's house, the homeowner witnessed two male suspects dash from her house and through her backyard.

Gwinnett police's K9 unit and a helicopter responded to search for the suspects, Smith said. The K9 unit tracked them down "not terribly far" away, despite the suspects' efforts to shed clothing while running away, he said.

The suspects, described only as 18-year-old black males, were arrested and have been charged with burglary. They might also face misdemeanor obstruction charges for fleeing, Smith said.

Initial reports included a third suspect in the crime, but Smith was unsure Monday if those reports were valid.

another great reason for people to get a concealed weapon permit. "Don't leave home without it."
