Metals company expansion planned for Duluth

DULUTH -- A metals processor and distributor has announced expansion of its Atlanta operations to include a complex in Duluth. It's a measure that could add 25 new jobs to the area.

Ryerson bought the former O'Neal Steel building on North Berkeley Lake Road in order to enhance inventory and processing capabilities. Slated for completion in early 2012, the expansion will also add about 147,000 square feet of warehouse space to the businesses' Atlanta operations.

"The expansion of Ryerson's inventory and processing capabilities is designed to bring additional value to our customers by offering complete supply chain solutions," said Dave Keatley, general manager of Ryerson's Atlanta operations.

"We are strengthening our rapid response capabilities by expanding our customer service hours to 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and with the addition of a same-day delivery option on expedited requirements," Keatley said.

Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris said the city "welcomes Ryerson to Duluth and Gwinnett County. We are rebuilding our economy, and partners like Ryerson are vital to this effort."

According to its website, Ryerson is "a leading distributor and processor of metals in North America."

The company is headquartered in Chicago and operates service centers in cities across the United States and Canada.

Curious that they are expanding without Bannister-Kenerly International in place. What gives? Perhaps they just believe they can catch a plane out of HJA? Oh well. I guess that has worked for some time now.
