Parkview grad Eric Shanteau and Brookwood grad Amanda Weir, both past Olympians, are part of the Dec. 16-17 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, a bi-annual showcase of top U.S. swimmers vs. international stars. This year's event is close to home for Shanteau and Weir at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. It will be broadcast by NBC.
The two locals are joined on the U.S. rosters by standouts like Ryan Lochte, Natalie Coughlin, Rebecca Soni, Brendan Hansen, Missy Franklin and Amanda Beard. Fellow Atlanta Kathleen Hersey also is on the team.
The European roster features Markus Rogan, Laszlo Cseh, Daniel Gyurta, Lotte Friis, Marleen Veldhuis and Gemma Spofforth.
Tickets are on sale now at http://www.ferstcenter.gatech.edu/ and no tickets will be sold at the event itself. Over $100,000 of prize money is at stake for the swimmers, with $1,500 rewards for gold medals and up to $15,000 for world records.
