SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Savannah police are investigating the death of a newborn baby found amid trash in the back of a garbage truck.
Police spokesman Julian Miller says a trash collector found the small body Tuesday morning as the truck was picking up garbage in an east Savannah neighborhood. He described the baby as a "fully developed newborn."
Miller says police want to know how the baby died and are working to find its parents. He says investigators are looking for clues and potential witnesses along the garbage truck's route.
No other details, including the baby's gender, have been released by police.
