PREP ROUNDUP: Duluth's Hood gets first win

DULUTH -- Zach Erwin had 17 points and Ify Imachukwu added 16 to give Duluth's boys basketball team a 55-48 win over Meadowcreek and Eddie Hood his first victory as the Wildcats' head coach.

Anthony Hall led Meadowcreek with 18 points in the Region 7-AAAAA contest.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Grayson 64, Brookwood 63

LOGANVILLE -- Derick Pope and Ryan Lisenba had 13 points each and Aaron Burton chipped in 12 to lead Grayson (2-1, 1-1) to a 64-63 win over Brookwood in Region 8-AAAAA. Malcolm Hannah led Brookwood (2-3, 0-3) with 30 points, seven steals and three assists, while Khalil Abdulla had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Shiloh 61, Dacula 49

DACULA -- Christopher Keyes had a game-high 24 points as Shiloh got past Dacula 61-49 in Region 8-AAAAA. Robert Carter added 14 points and Trayvon Reed chipped in 13 for the Generals (5-0, 3-0). Anthony Morse led Dacula (3-3, 1-2) with 14 points.

Archer 74, Parkview 61

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Nafis Floyd scored 20 points and Bryan Hamlet added 19 to lead Archer to a 74-61 victory over Parkview in Region 8-AAAAA. Tramique Anderson added 18 points and 12 points and Randall Smith dished out 10 assists for the Tigers (3-2, 2-1).

Mill Creek 66, Mountain View 40

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Mill Creek put 10 players in the scoring column as the Hawks rolled over Mountain View 66-40 in Region 7-AAAAA. Paul Evans led the way with 12 points, while Jalen Bracey had 11 for the Hawks (5-0, 1-0). Ryan Gibbs led Mountain View (1-5, 0-1) with nine points, while Andre Joseph and Jordan Strickland had eight each.

Walnut Grove 71, Lanier 56

SUGAR HILL -- M.J. Bryant had 23 points and Jordan Davis had 11, but Walnut Grove got past Lanier 71-56 in the Region 8-AAA opener for both teams. The Longhorns fall to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the region, while the Warriors improved to 5-1, 1-0.

Greater Atlanta Christian 76, Therrell 37

NORCROSS -- Cole Hobbs had 21 points as Greater Atlanta Christian put four players in double-figures en route to an easy 76-37 win over Therrell in Region 6-AA. Delano Spencer added 14 points and Collin Swinton and Andrew Lewis had 11 each for the Spartans (3-3, 2-0).

Wesleyan 47, North Hall 46

GAINESVILLE -- Shane Smith and Charles Mack had 12 points each as Wesleyan edged North Hall 47-46. Wesleyan (2-3) turned away two North Hall shots in the final 12 seconds to preserve the win.

Providence 74, Pace 57

LILBURN -- ABJ Kushanu and Charlie Scott each had 15 points as Providence Christian Academy knocked off Pace Academy 74-57. Nate Bucher and Kareem Adekunle added 14 points each for the Stars (3-3).

Buford 84, South Atlanta 64

BUFORD -- Isaiah Williams had 22 points and Brad Mapes added 16 to lead Buford to a 84-64 win over South Atlanta in the Region 6-AA opener. Trevor Shipes added 13 points for the Wolves (3-3, 1-0).

North Oconee 61, Hebron 52

BOGART -- Griffin Gambill had 15 points and Dylan Schulte had 12, but it wasn't enough as North Oconee knocked off Hebron Christian Academy 61-52. The Lions fall to 1-5 on the season.

Monroe Area 55, Apalachee 46

MONROE -- Apalachee got 15 points from Cameron Blakley and 12 from Rakim Peters, but the Wildcats (2-2) fell to Monroe Area 55-46. Ken Jackson led Monroe Area (4-0) with 30 points.

Old Suwanee Christian 51, Mountain Area Christian 35

BUFORD -- Logan English scored 15 points and Brandon Bradford added 13 points and 12 rebounds in Old Suwanee Christian's 51-35 win over Moutain Area Christian. Matthew Saavedra also added 10 points and 17 rebounds for the Conquerors. Thomas Shamblin led the way for Mountain Area with 15 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Parkview 73, Archer 40

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Makenna Pouengue poured in a game-high 21 points, including five three-pointers, as Parkview remained undefeated with a 73-40 win over Archer in Region 8-AAAAA. Vicky Harris added nine points and Erika Joseph had eight for the Panthers (7-0, 3-0). Alesha Mann led Archer (4-2, 2-1) with 12 points and Madison Newby had 11.

Mountain View 43, Mill Creek 42

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Kelsey Hutchins had 20 points and Iceis Walker added 10 as Mountain View rallied for a 43-42 win over Mill Creek in the Region 7-AAAAA opener for both teams. Bria Virgil added eight rebounds for Mountain View (5-1, 1-0) while Nadiya Miller and Alesia Fagin led the way for Mill Creek (2-3, 0-1) with 14 points each.

Brookwood 53, Grayson 32

LOGANVILLE -- Rebecca Walker had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Brookwood to a 53-32 win over Grayson in Region 8-AAAAA action. Courtney Gardner had 13 points as the Broncos (4-4, 3-0) put nine players in the scoring column. Sadie Caudell led Grayson (0-3, 0-2) with 16 points.

Dacula 45, Shiloh 41

DACULA --Taryn Anthony led Dacula with 12 points as the Falcons held on for a 45-41 win over Shiloh in Region 8-AAAAA. Kendelle Culpepper added 10 points for Dacula (3-3, 2-1). Courtney Blair led Shiloh (1-3, 0-3) with 13 points.

Duluth 63, Meadowcreek 40

DULUTH -- Duluth (5-1, 1-0) played all 14 players and 11 Wildcats found the scoring column en route to a 63-40 win over Meadowcreek in the Region 7-AAAAA opener for both teams.

Buford 73, South Atlanta 18

BUFORD -- Kaela Davis had a game-high 26 points and Kristina Nelson added 23 as Buford (2-0, 1-0) rolled over South Atlanta 73-18 in the Region 6-AA opener for both teams.

Wesleyan 72, North Hall 34

GAINESVILLE -- Holli Wilkins led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds as Wesleyan cruised to a 72-34 victory over North Hall. Brittany Stevens added 14 points and Joshlyn Belcher had 13 for the Wolves (6-0).

Walnut Grove 58, Lanier 40

SUGAR HILL -- Despite Shelby Threlkeld's team-high 12 points, Lanier dropped a 58-40 decision to Walnut Grove. Jaylen Cruz added 11 points for the Longhorns (1-4).

Mountain Area Christian 41, Old Suwanee Christian 38

BUFORD -- Mary Beth Boatright had 27 points, 18 rebounds and 10 steals, but it wasn't enough as Old Suwanee Christian fell to Mountain Area Christian 41-38.
