Movie filmed at GGC airs Friday

A made-for-TV movie with some scenes filmed on the Georgia Gwinnett College campus is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. Friday on NBC.

"Game of Your Life," which features Lea Thompson and Nathan Kress among other actors, was filmed partly at the local campus in September.

Said Film Producer David Rosemont: "GGC was a great location to film this movie, because (the college) embraces all of the qualities of a high-end scholastic environment in an idyllic setting."

The film is about a student who chooses to go to the nation's top video gaming college and is forced to make tough financial decisions about his family.

Thompson is perhaps most famous for her role in the "Back to the Future" movie trilogy from the '80s and early '90s. Kress is known for his role on the television show, "iCarly."

"Gaming technology is important to the economic development of Gwinnett County and the Atlanta region," said Thomas Mundie, dean of the school of science and technology. "Graduates with this expertise are in demand here and elsewhere as the field continues to expand rapidly."

During the filming in September, some GGC students and faculty had opportunities to participate as extras in selected scenes.

The production company paid GGC for the use of its facilities and the assistance of its staff. A team of the college's employees worked in close partnership with the production company to meet their needs without potential disruption to the college's daily operations.

College President Daniel J. Kaufman said the staff was "delighted to have had this unusual opportunity to not only create a wide range of experiences for our students but also to contribute to the economy by hosting this production."

Added Kaufman: "We hope this opens the doors for similar opportunities in the future for both GGC and its students as well as the Georgia film industry."

Rosemont has produced more than 40 films for major studios including ABC, NBC, CBS, Showtime, the Hallmark Hall of Fame, Dreamworks and more.
