ATLANTA (AP) — A former Fulton County middle school assistant principal who was convicted of shooting his estranged wife six times has died while serving his prison sentence.
Fulton County Sheriff's spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said Rodney Denson died early Wednesday at Grady Memorial Hospital from an illness.
He was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to the 2005 shooting of his wife, Elletta Bailey, as her three children were getting ready for school at their home in Fairburn.
Bailey survived, but was severely injured in the attack and racked up tens of thousands of dollars in medical expenses.
The Georgia Supreme Court reversed the sentence in January 2009 because of a flaw in his court transcript. He was resentenced in September 2010, this time to 35 years in prison.
