GAB: Gwinnett Tech gets $75,000 boost for new program

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A worldwide networking business has donated $75,000 to the Gwinnett Tech Legacy of Lives Campaign to help launch the college's new Health Information Technology program and to support the college's new Life Sciences Center.

The funds will be used to underwrite a HIT faculty member and to aid in the development of the curriculum components identified by industry.

With the start of fall semester, Gwinnett Tech welcomed its first class of health information students enrolled in the college's new associate degree program in Health Information Technology.

Sharon Bartels, Gwinnett Tech president, stated that "Cisco has been a longtime supporter of Gwinnett Tech and a consistent and generous benefactor of education in our community."

Parks and recreation staff honored

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Georgia Recreation and Park Association presented two Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation staff members certificates for completing the George Harris Executive Management Institute.

Eric Horne, grounds maintenance manager and Elizabeth Radley, recreation coordinator, were presented with an award at the 66th annual GRPA State Conference held Aug. 18 in Macon.

The George Harris Executive Management Institute is designed to further develop skills and knowledge of recreation professionals from around the state.

Only 19 recreational professionals are selected throughout the state to participate each year in the program.

Stone Mountain Park hiring 200 employees

STONE MOUNTAIN -- For its upcoming "Snow Mountain" season, Stone Mountain Park is hiring nearly 200 employees. A spokesman for the park said recruitment is underway.

The main position being hired is for Snow Mountain Attendant. Interviews will begin in September with applications being accepted at www.stonemountainpark.com.
