NORFOLK, Va. -- With six runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth, the Gwinnett Braves led by Mauro Gomez turned a 2-1 deficit into a blowout win over the Norfolk Tides.
Finishing a suspended game from July 25 in the fifth inning, Gwinnett quickly fell behind by a run. The rained stopped the July game with a 1-1 tie and G-Braves' starter and big-league reliever Peter Moylan pitched a solid one inning, walking one batter. Jaye Chapman entered in relief of Moylan and immediately allowed a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the deficit didn't hold up.
With the bases loaded and one out, Stefan Gartrell singled to tie the game at 2-2 and then Gomez struck the big blow. The first baseman hit his first triple of the season and the G-Braves didn't look back. Gomez ended the game with eight RBIs off a pair of home runs and the triple and scored three runs.
Including the first five innings in July, Matt Young ended the game 3-for-3 with three walks, Wilkin Ramirez was 2-for-4 and Jeff Fiorentino went 3-for-5. Chapman took the win and Dustin Richardson and J.J. Hoover combined to pitch three scoreless innings.
The regularly scheduled game for Wednesday was not completed by deadline.
