Emerson Newsome of Dacula and Benjamin Shipp of Duluth won age group titles this past weekend at the Athens Junior Shootout, a Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event at The Georgia Club.
Newsome shot 75 and 66 to win the boys 15- to 18-year-old division and Shipp shot 69 in back-to-back rounds to post the tourney's lowest two-day score at 4 under par.
Annika Blanton of Dacula shot 108 and 93 to finish as runner-up in the girls 10- to 13-year-old division. Other locals in the top 10 were: Braselton's Taylor Martin (boys 15-19, fourth, 70-75), Duluth's Tae Kim (boys 15-19, tie for fifth, 75-71), Duluth's Matt Collins (boys 13-14, fourth, 71-74) and Lawrenceville's Taylor Allen (83-81) and Braselton's Darby Gentry (84-80), who tied each other for 10th in 14-18 girls.
