Suwanee Fire crews battled a two-acre brush fire Monday alongside Interstate 85 near Suwanee that shut down a local road for several hours, officials said.
Fire crews responded to I-85 southbound, just north of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, about 11:30 a.m. Officials reported the wind-driven blaze had grown to two acres between the interstate and Sawmill Drive but was under control about an hour later.
Firefighters remained on scene for several hours wetting down hot spots in the woods. The blaze scorched woods and dense brush along the interstate.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known Monday afternoon, but did not appear suspicious, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge.
No vehicles or structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported, Rutledge said.
Southbound lanes of I-85 were closed for less than 20 minutes due to fire equipment in the roadway. Sawmill Drive remained closed until about 2 p.m., Rutledge said.
