NORCROSS -- Wesleyan and GAC both found little trouble against the top competition from Class A/AA volleyball, each going 3-1 in the Top 10 play day at Wesleyan.
The Wolves beat Our Lady of Mercy, Lovett and ELCA and lost to Athen Academy in three games. Anna Davis led Wesleyan with 30 kills and 17 digs, Ashley Maughon added 38 digs, Katie Van Laeke had 29 kills and 10 digs, Natalie Connor had 28 digs, Hannah Hoskin chipped in 25 digs and Lauren Frerking had 10 kills and four blocks for Wesleyan (9-5).
For the Spartans, Rachel Waldrop dished out a stellar 76 assists as GAC beat Lovett, Holy Innocents' and Our Lady of Mercy. The only Spartans loss came against No. 1 Blessed Trinity in three games, dropping the third by three points.
Dede Bohannon had 37 kills and 32 digs, Morgan McKnight added 27 kills, Catherine Chason had 45 digs and Janaya Simmons turned in an all-around strong game with 23 digs, 14 kills and six aces.
Bulldogs champs in Forsyth
CUMMING -- Alex Parks dished out 94 assists and Kristina Stinson hammered out 52 kills to lead North Gwinnett to the championship in the Forsyth Challenge at North Foryth.
The Bulldogs were a perfect 5-0, beating Forsyth Central, Creekview, Fellowship Christian, Cherokee, Woodstock and South Foryth in the title match. Miller Howard had 37 kills and 47 digs and Matia Hughes added 42 digs on the day for the champion Bulldogs (15-2).
Lions say Aloha
SNELLVILLE -- Peachtree Ridge improved its record to 12-3 with a perfect day at Brookwood's annual Aloha Bash.
The Lions beat South Gwinnett, Mountain View, Apalachee, Walnut Grove and Providence on their perfect day. Lucy Riddle dished out 69 assists to go with her 28 kills, five aces and 13 digs, Eleonora Porazzi added 47 kills, 16 aces and 13 digs, Lauren Greene had 30 kills and 11 aces and Haley Harvey collected 13 digs at libero.
Broncos perfect at home
SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood marched through its Aloha Bash a perfect 5-0 with wins over North Cobb Christian, Mill Creek, Monroe Area, Loganville and Prince Avenue Christian.
Senior outside hitter Erin Shelton led the way with big blocks by Maggie Collins and an oustanding defensive effort from senior libero Katie Kraft.
Collins Hill slips just once
SNELLVILLE -- Collins Hill opened its day at Brookwood's Aloha Bash with a three-game loss to Providence, but rallied to win the next four matches over Walnut Grove, Mountain View, George Walton Academy and Apalachee.
Katherine Ahlswede unselfishly led the way with 104 assists and six blocks, Caitlin Conner added 29 kills and six more blocks, Sarah Stone had 14 service aces to go with 41 digs and Taylor Vold had 12 kills for the Eagles.
Only hosts beat Mill Creek
SNELLVILLE -- Mill Creek improved to 12-6 on the season with a 4-1 day at Brookwood's Aloha Bash, falling only to the host Broncos.
The Hawks pounded out wins over Loganville, Locust Grove, North Cobb Christian and Archer on a big day from Caitlyn Lattimer who had 75 assists. Ashely Isaac had 28 kills and 15 digs, Kim Brody added 23 kills and 17 digs, Jordan Rooks had 25 digs and Audrey Hoffman had 15 kills for the Hawks.
Stars shine on
SNELLVILLE -- Providence, led by Maddie Jones' 47 kills, 29 digs and nine aces, went 4-1 in Brookwood's Aloha Bash.
The Stars' only loss came to Peachtree Ridge and they beat Collins Hill, George Walton Academy and Walnut Grove. Codiann Amis had 10 aces and 47 digs, D'Anna Kester had 14 kills, three blocks and 69 assists and Kaitlin Harper added 22 kills and 10 blocks for the Stars (10-8).
Parkview 8, Decatur 0
DEMOREST -- Eyrn Stepp was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs at Parkview dimantled Decatur 8-0 at Piedmont College on Saturday.
Amanda Chambers pitched all five innings, striking out 13 and not allowing a hit. At the plate, the pitcher went 2-for-3. Also for Parkview, Ally Claytor went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Heather Rockwell went 2-for-2 with a triple and a run knocked in for the Panthers (5-2).
Grayson takes two of three
CHEROKEE -- Grayson picked up wins over Heritage, 6-5, and Cass, 8-6, on Saturday in three games at Cherokee.
The Rams lost the third game 7-2 to Cherokee. Alex Sexton hit a two-run home run in the Cherokee loss.
Against Heritage, Jen Spanzler picked up the win, striking out three over seven innings. Taylor Denton went 2-for-4 with two steals, Niki Cook went 2-for-4 and Shelby Smith went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer.
In the win over Cass, Breanna Etheridge pitched four innings to take the win, Denton went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs and Smith knocked in two in a 2-for-4 game.
Hawks' girls champions in Athens
ATHENS -- Three Mill Creek runners placed in the top 10, including race winner Rachel Hull, as the Hawks won the Northeast Georgia Championship in Athens.
Hull finished the course in 20 minutes, 46.13 seconds. Ashlee Varnson finished eighth in 22:11.76, Maggie Aceto took 10th in 22:16.61, Emily Giles finished 11th in 22:22.71 and Maria Amorosso finished 21st in 22:54.04.
