Auburn fall art fest to feature homegrown talent

AUBURN -- The Harvest of Art Festival in Auburn next month will offer some homegrown talent from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

SCAD sophomore Whitney Wheeler, an Apalachee High School graduate, will be sharing her illustrative talents at the downtown Auburn festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 10.

Wheeler, who completed a Disney internship before moving on to advanced studies at SCAD, will provide three mini-art lessons during the day, with a focus on cartooning.

The lessons are free, said Kathleen Gill, president of the Piedmont Arts Center, the organization staging the annual fall festival. Also free at the festival will be a children's art activity.

Harvest of Art will showcase fine art and fine crafts, complemented with good food and musical entertainment, Gill said.

The not-for-profit center recently relocated from Winder to a historic house in downtown Auburn. Its mission is to "cultivate, facilitate and promote a community in which all art forms can thrive cooperatively," according to the center's website.

GPAC -- and the fall festival, for that matter -- is located at 1396 3rd Ave. in Auburn. For more information, phone 404-202-3044 or visit www.GeorgiaPiedmontArtsCenter.com.
