Mrs. Gippie Melton McCormack, age 84, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday morning August 25, 2011 at Gwinnett Extended Care. Gippie was the daughter of Maude Craig Melton and Ethan Allen Melton, one of Gwinnett County's pioneer families. She was the wife of the late C. Roy McCormack of Atlanta. Gippie born in Lawrenceville spent many years in Tampa, Florida, living with a beloved aunt, Mrs. Tom Sammon while attending Tampa University. She was a member of Beta Sigma Chi. After attending Duke University she was manager of Slaton Manor Apartments in Atlanta where she met her husband. After his death she came back to Lawrenceville to live. Gippie was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by sisters and their husbands Ruth and Sam Fields and Maude and Larry Bowman. Surviving Gippie is a sister Elizabeth Melton Cofer and husband Floyd Cofer. A niece, Anne Cofer Connell and husband Charles Connell of Lawrenceville. 5 nephews, Sammy Fields and wife Deborah Fields of Bluffton, SC, Jimmy Fields of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Craig Bowman, David Bowman and Al Cofer and wife Debbie all of Loganville, GA, other survivors are six nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews, special cousins, Martha Anne Mapp, Nannette Williams and Judy Roberts. A Graveside Service to Celebrate the Life of Gippie will be at 11:30 AM on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Fairview Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lawrenceville. Rev. Chip Blankenship will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
