PREP ROUNDUP: Homers lead North to 8-0 win

SUWANEE -- Kendall McKiney and Moriah Strother homered to power North Gwinnett to an 8-0 win over Mountain View on Monday.

Emily Wood was the winning pitcher, tossing a complete game shutout. She struck out five and allowed three hits. Sydney O'Neal added a triple at the plate for the Bulldogs (5-3).

SOFTBALL

Collins Hill 9, Peachtree Ridge 1

SUWANEE -- Kayla Floor struck out five batters and allowed one unearned run in Collins Hill's 9-1 victory over Peachtree Ridge on Monday. Floor improved to 4-1, while Collins Hill moved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAAAA action.

Brittany Roley was 2-for-4 with three runs at the plate. Peyton Wilson was 2-for-3 with two runs, Shay Halstead went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Calli Star went 2-for-3 and Allie Spell was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Archer 5, Appalache 4

WINDER -- Nani Cabrales struck out nine to give Archer a 5-4 win over Appalache on Monday. Cabrales went seven innings, allowing seven hits and four runs, but only one of them was earned.

Taylor Albritton was 1-for-3 with two runs, Cabrales was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Jenna Graham was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Alliyah Williams was 2-for-4 for the Tigers (9-4).

GAC 6, Dacula 5

DACULA -- Dacula had a 5-0 lead after two innings before Greater Atlanta Christian rallied for a 6-5 victory on Monday. Brianna Stewart (4-0) was the winning pitcher for the Spartans. Mary Johnson was 2-for-3 with a run, Sierra Lawrence and Natalie deLatour each had a double and run scored, Sydney Smartt and Grace DeBoer each went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Spartans (6-1).

Kendra Pfister was the losing pitcher for Dacula (4-4). Taryn Anthony was 3-for-4 with a triple, while Katie McMillian, Kate Daniels and April Ledbetter each went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Hebron 2, Providence 1

DACULA -- Savannah Monahan went 3-for-3 to lead Hebron past Providence 2-1 on Monday.

Kaylyn Brooks was the winning pitcher, while Lyndey McCurry got the save for the Lions (8-1).

Jessie Kowlaewicz went 1-for-2 with an RBI triple, while Katy Barry and MacKenzie Tuttle doubled and Alex Kennedy had a triple for the Stars (3-5).

Wesleyan 11, Blessed Trinity 7

ROSWELL -- Katie Frerking went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer and six RBIs to give Wesleyan an 11-7 win over Blessed Trinity on Monday.

Caramia Tsirigos was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Landyn Duley went 3-for-4 with four runs and an RBI. Amanda DeLaPerriere picked up the win, going five innings and allowing four hits for the Wolves (5-3).

North wins division at Hawk-Bulldog tourney

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett won two of three games and claimed the title in the highly competitive Platinum Division of the Hawk-Bulldog Invitational on Saturday. North defeated South Forsyth 6-5 and Ola 3-1 and dropped a nail biter against Oconee County 2-0.

Moriah Strother's two-out single completed North's 6-5 comeback win over South Forsyth. Emily Wood (1-0) pitched four innings striking out four, while allowing four hits and two unearned runs. Kinsley Jennings (2-0) got the win in relief, striking out two while allowing four hits. Sydney O'Neill doubled twice and had two RBIs. Hannah Harrison, Kinsley Jennings, Kendall McKinney, Sydney O Neill, Tori Prince and Moriah Strother each singled. Alaina Hall had two stolen bases and two runs scored. Moriah Strother threw out a base stealer.

The Bulldogs fell to visiting Oconee County by the score of 2-0 despite a terrific pitching performance by North's Morgan White. White threw a complete game four-hitter with four strikeouts and two earned runs.

Oconee County's impressive pitching duo limited North to three hits and six total base runners, none of whom advanced past second base. North's Lacey Najafi, Alaina Hall and Draven Sonnon each hit a single. Miranda Strother walked twice. Sonnon and Kendall McKinney each walked once.

North claimed the platinum division championship with a 3-1 victory over Ola. Alaina Hall threw five complete innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out four but got a no decision. Emily Wood got the win, throwing two scoreless innings in relief The Bulldogs broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth when Tori Prince and Lacey Najafi hit back-to-back singles. Moriah Strother hit her second game-winning RBI single of the day scoring Prince and Najafi. Amanda Shimmin, Kendall McKinney and Kinsley Jennings each had multiple hits.

VOLLEYBALL

Grayson gets first loss

Second-year school Lanier defeated Grayson 25-26, 25-17, 25-21 to give the Rams (5-1) their first loss of the season on Monday.

Grayson rebounded after the loss to defeat Chestatee 25-22, 25-21. Alex Daniels was 6-for-6 on assists.

Collins Hill goes 1-3 at tourney

KENNESAW -- Collins Hill picked up a win against Wesleyan, but dropped three other matches at the North Cobb Warrior Classic on Saturday. The Eagles beat Wesleyan 13-25, 25-17, 15-10, but lost to North Cobb (25-17, 25-9), Hillgrove (23-17, 25-20) and Holy Innocents' (25-12, 25-14).

Katherine Ahlswede had 51 assists, Courtney Oster made seven aces and 12 kills, Farah Stone made 27 digs and five aces and Samantha Rivera had 14 blocks.-- From staff reports
