LAWRENCEVILLE -- With its most recent count of students Gwinnett County Public Schools is on track to meet anticipated enrollment projections.
According to a tally of K-12 students conducted Aug. 22, the system has 161,698 students.
Officials plan to count the student population once more after Labor Day, during which time planners expect enrollment to be "very close to the forecast," according to Jorge Quintana, director of media relations.
Officials forecasted that there would be 162,459 for the 2011-12 school year.
The current number puts the district 761 below projections.
The remaining counts are scheduled for Aug. 29 and Sept. 6.
Enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year was tallied at 161,130 after Labor Day.
Historically, the number of students peaks during the fourth or fifth school month.
