2010 record: 1-9
Northview and Meadowcreek have similar programs right now. Both teams are breaking in second-year coaches and neither has had much success in recent years. The only game won by either team last season was this one, a 28-15 victory by Northview.
"We've got to play fundamentally sound football. That's the key," Meadowcreek coach Deario Grimmage said. "That's not just this week, every week."
Northview is coached by Chad Davenport, a former assistant at Peachtree Ridge. The Titans have never had a winning season in their nine-year history, but Northview was a lot more competitive last season.
"I think they do a lot of things well," Grimmage said. "They run the spread offense, but they do a good job running the ball."
Meadowcreek is riding a 28-game losing streak dating back to 2008. A big part of that downfall has been the offense, which managed just 25 points all last season.
"I'd like to have more of an identity," Grimmage said.
Defensive back Keyon Rich stood out in the secondary with some nice tackling and good coverage during the Mustangs' 14-0 scrimmage loss to Arabia Mountain. Three-year starter RayQuan Sam has also been a main contributor in the secondary.
"I'm looking for those guys to be leaders," Grimmage said.
