Buford has won its season opener for 13 straight years, including last Friday's win over Blessed Trinity. The Wolves lead the county in Game 1 success recently by a large margin.
A close second is Wesleyan, which is looking for its sixth straight season-opening win tonight at Seminole County.
Since 2006, the Class AAAAA team with the best success in the opening game is Collins Hill. The Eagles have won four their last five season debuts, including the last three in a row. Grayson, Norcross, North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge have each won four of their past six openers.
On the other side of the spectrum, Meadowcreek hasn't won a season opener since 2001. Other teams that have struggled in Game 1 since 2006: Brookwood (1-5), Parkview (1-4), Mill Creek (1-4), Berkmar (1-4) and Duluth (1-4).
On this week in 2004, Berkmar holds Duluth to 53 total yards in a 25-3 win that gives the Patriots a 2-0 start. ... Chandler Snell throws for 112 yards, on 8 of 12 attempts as South Gwinnett beats South Forsyth 21-0. Jackson Dean is Snell's main target, catching six passes for 100 yards.
