Suwanee City council members voted Tuesday to lower the millage rate, from last year's 5.7 mills to a rate of 5.65 mills in 2011. The action followed two mandatory public hearings held this month, one on Aug. 11 and the other on Tuesday. The last time the millage rate was reduced in Suwanee was fiscal year 2006.
Girl Scout earns highest honor
Mayor Dave Williams, on behalf of the city, presented North Gwinnett High School graduate Allison Eddy a plaque honoring her achievement in earning the Gold Award, the highest distinction a Girl Scout can reach with a civic project. Eddy was instrumental in coordinating and seeing to near completion the butterfly mural at Harvest Farm Gardens at White Street Park in Suwanee.
Williams told Eddy’s parents that they "reared an amazing young woman" and that the butterfly mural is a beautiful addition to the garden.
Accepting the city’s token of appreciation, Eddy said, “I’m glad you guys enjoy it so much.”
