The Better Business Bureau is warning metro Atlanta business owners of an email scam in which the culprits are purporting to be from the BBB itself.
Emails reportedly coming from a fake BBB address -- BBBupdate@post.com -- in the metro area falsely request verification and validation of the bureau's ratings, spokeswoman Dottie Callina said.
The BBB "wishes to remind all businesses and consumers that we are not conducting a verification request nor are we issuing emails in response to a pending rating or review about you or your business," Callina said.
Those receiving the emails asking them to "contact our notification department immediately" are asked to disregard and report information to the BBB at www.bbb.org/us/scam-source. Those with questions or concerns may also contact the BBB's Atlanta office at 404-766-0875.
