Chris Carson is back at running back after taking last season off, while track star Micah Reed will also get some carries.

Micah Finley, Brandon Sullivan and former offensive lineman Hunter Thorton will share duties at fullback and bring something special to the backfield.

Receiver Jordan Reed stood out during summer passing league and has a knack for getting the ball. He leads a large cast of receivers that will split time.

Tight end Colby Smith is one of three starters back on the line. Bryce Goldsby returns at tackle, while Breon Chapman and Michael Sun will split duties at quick guard.

"We have good people in skill spots and our line of scrimmage is a work in progress," Parkview coach Cecil Flowe. "I really feel good about what I've seen."

The heart and soul of Parkview's defense is the linebacking unit. The group is led by college prospect Patrick Flowe and Kyle Williams.

"We're going to be as strong as ever there," Flowe said.

The group will help lead an inexperienced defensive line. Offensive starters Thorton, Sun and Goldsby are expected to see playing time along with Breon Weathersby.

The secondary has a strong group of talented players. Rob Youngblood leads the unit, while Shaq Vareen, Bryce Lewis and Mack Marshall have shown promise.

"(Rob) is the organizer back there," Flowe said. "He and Patrick and Kyle Williams are the sparks on defense."

Championship experience

Quarterback Jack Esmonde and safety Rob Youngblood missed spring practice while the baseball team made a run to the Class AAAAA state championship.

"We were pulling for the baseball team to win," Flowe said. "We knew we were going to be without them."

Esmonde, who has committed to UGA baseball, was instrumental as an infielder and pitcher, while Youngblood was an infielder/outfielder. Flowe is hoping that championship experience will carry over to football.

"It kind of goes hand-in-hand. They've got a big taste of winning big," Flowe said. "They will transfer that and know how it feels. They want to have that same opportunity to have a playoff run and go deep (in football)."

Veteran coach

When Dacula's Kevin Maloof retired after the season, that pushed Flowe to the top as the county's longest active head coach. He holds the same distinction in Class AAAAA. This will be Flowe's 19th season as Parkview's head coach, but does it feel that long?

"Yes, it does," he said with a laugh. "I told some people do I see myself doing this for 35 or 40 years? No, but I probably will be. Because you get that itch this time of year to be out there."

Flowe has been one of the state's most successful coaches. He has a 181-50 coaching record, which includes four state championships. Parkview has made the playoffs 16 of the last 18 years.

Parkview has 93 players on the varsity, which includes 16 seniors, and 144 in the program this season ... Linebacker Patrick Flowe has a handful of Division I scholarship offers. Lineman Bryce Goldsby has also drawn interest from colleges ... Parkview returned to the playoffs last year after having its 15-year streak snapped last season.
