PREP ROUNDUP: Broncos take three at tourney

HOSCHTON -- Brookwood swept three games to win its division at the Hawk-Bulldog Tournament -- defeating Peachtree Ridge 7-2, Loganville 6-1 and Houston County 9-2 on Saturday.

Pitcher Rachel Hill picked up wins over Peachtree Ridge and Houston County as the Broncos improved their record to 10-1 overall. Emily Brantley was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Daniella Ulloa was 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the win over Peachtree Ridge.

Maiah Johnson (3-1) took the loss for Peachtree Ridge and also went 1-for-2 at the plate.

Taiylor Rinehart was 1-for-2 with a home run and Ambree Muller was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the Broncos' victory over Loganville. Brandi Jones picked up the win with four strikeouts. In the finale against Houston County, Megan Litumbe went 4-for-4 with an RBI while Susan Norris was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Nicole Truett chipped in with a 1-for-1 day while Bramlett and Jones added two hits.


Sagermann leads Mill Creek attack

HOSCHTON -- Nikki Sagermann belted out six hits and picked up the win in the circle in the second game of the day as Mill Creek (5-1-1) captured the Silver Division by beating Apalachee 10-2, Jefferson 8-0 and Archer 4-2.

Sagermann, who also picked up the win over Jefferson with a complete-game one-hitter, had three extra-base hits along with four RBIs and a stolen base. Katelyn Porter got her first win of the season in the victory over Apalachee, allowing just two hits along the way. Chandler Griffin was 3-for-4 with two triples while Anyssa Robles was 2-for-3 with a single and a double. Griffin was also 1-for-2 with two runs in the win over Jefferson while Jenna Holland was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Tori Mitchell got the win against Archer and went the distance to improve to 2-0. Lauren Bennett was 2-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base while Breanna Buckley was 2-for-2 and Alissa Stringer was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Nani Cabrales took the loss for Archer while Alliyah Williams went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and one run scored to lead the offensive attack. Taylor Ocakunzzi was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Tigers.

Mountain View 4, Northside-Columbus 3

HOSCHTON -- Mountain View's Kaylee Hennelly went 3-for-4 and drove in the winning run as the Bears defeated Northside-Columbus 4-3 in an international tie-breaker at the Hawk-Bulldog Tournament.

Hennelly had three doubles and drove in two in the winning effort. Winning pitcher Hannah Seagriff went the distance and struck out three for Mountain View (5-8). Taylor Miller also went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Collins wins three at Hawk-Bulldog tourney

HOSCHTON -- Collins Hill swept three games and won the Platinum Division at the Hawk-Bulldog Tournament by taking down Loganville 9-2, West Laurens 6-1 and Buford 2-1. Allie LeGette (1-0) got the win over Loganville and tossed a four-hitter. Shay Halstead was 1-for-2 with a double while Ashleigh Simmons was 1-for-1. Aeshia Miles moved to 2-0 on the young season by throwing a five-hitter in the win over West Laurens. Collins Hill (6-1) wrapped up the tournament by edging Buford 2-1 as Kayla Floor (3-1) went the distance and struck out eight en route to the win. Floor also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Peyton Wilson had the game-winning RBI in the fourth when she plated courtesy runner Janae Horton.

Archer wins two at Hawk-Bulldog Tournament

HOSCHTON -- Archer moved to 8-4 on the season with shutout wins over Jefferson 5-0 and Apalachee 2-0, then dropped a tough 4-2 decision to Mill Creek. Alliyah Williams (5-1) got the complete-game win in the first game, scattering four hits and striking out three.

Nani Cabrales was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI while Genna Graham, Charday Smith and Katie Etheridge all went 2-for-3. Madison Wyngaert got the win over Apalachee by throwing a two-hitter and striking out seven. Taylor Allbriton was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Cabrales was 2-for-2 with a solo homer. Abby Lyall also went 2-for-2.

Peachtree Ridge splits with Houston County, Buford

HOSCHTON -- Peachtree Ridge rebounded from its loss to Brookwood by downing Houston County 5-4, but the Lions dropped an 8-2 decision to Buford in the finale. Quinn Hill got the win for Peachtree Ridge over Houston County, going the distance and striking out three. Sarah Walker was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Sam Pierannunzi was 1-for-1 with three walks, including the game-winning hit in the international tie-breaker. Ashley Sawdey was 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs in the loss to Buford.

Buford finishes as runner-up in Platinum Division

HOSCHTON -- Buford (3-5) finished second in the Platinum Division at the Hawk-Bulldog Tournament, dropping an 11-10 decision to West Laurens, knocking off Peachtree Ridge 8-2 and falling to Collins Hill 2-1 in the division title game. Lexi Overstreet batted .688 with five doubles, three homers and 11 RBIs in the tournament while Kallie Case hit .556 with a double, two triples, eight stolen bases and nine runs scored. Madyson Wynegar hit .462 with four runs scored and Tessa Daniels batted .333 with a homer, double and five RBIs.

Providence wins Black Division

HOSCHTON Providence Christian Academy won three one-run games and captured the Black Division at the Hawk-Bulldog Tournament, defeating Gainesville 4-3, Dacula 4-3 and Lanier 5-4. Bri Canady got the win in all three games and improved to 3-3 for the season. Canady also didn't walk a batter in 21 innings of work on the final day of the tournament. Jessie Kowalewicz had four hits, three runs and an RBI while MacKenzie Tuttle had three hits, three runs, three RBIs, plus a game-tying homer against Gainesville. Brittany Tuttle added two hits, three runs and four stolen bases for the Lions and Bethany Smith had two hits, two RBIs and the game-winning bunt with the bases loaded against Gainesville.

Hebron Christian goes 4-1 at LFO Tournament

RINGGOLD Hebron Christian Academy went 4-1 during the weekend at the LFO Tournament as the Lions defeated Strong Rock Christian 7-1, Harris County 1-0, Gordon Central 8-0 and Woodland (Henry County) 6-5. Hebron also dropped a 4-2 decision to Cuhuella Creek. Lyndey McCurry picked up all four wins in the circle for Hebron as the Lions improved to 7-1 on the season. McCurry batted .500 during the five games while Brooke Crosby hit .467 and Amber Walker .417. As a team, Hebron hit. 342.


Peachtree Ridge take three of four at Warrior Classic

KENNESAW Peachtree Ridge won three matches at the North Cobb Warrior Classic as the Lions upped their record to 5-1 for the season. Peachtree Ridge knocked off Banneker 25-7, 25-17; Dacula 25-14, 25-27, 15-7; and Pace Academy 25-16, 25-18. The Lions fell in their second match of the day, dropping a 25-21, 25-21 decision to North Oconee. Lucy Riddle had 12 aces, 17 kills, 52 assists, three blocks and 11 digs for the day while Lauren Greene had eight aces, 25 kills, four assists and four blocks. Eleonora Porazzi added seven aces, 24 kills and seven digs and Becca Meyer had four aces and 14 kills for the Lions.
