NORTH GWINNETT VS. MCEACHERN
North Gwinnett Bulldogs (7-AAAAA)
Coach: Bob Sphire
2010 record: 11-1
Last week: Season opener
McEachern Indians (4-AAAAA)
Coach: Kyle Hockman
2010 record: 10-2
Last week: Season opener
OUTLOOK
This matchup could be the most intriguing of the Corky Kell Classic, with both teams on impressive runs. McEachern has a 20-3 record the past two seasons and North has won 10 or more games in all five seasons under Sphire. Both programs also are coming off disappointing playoff finishes, both losing in the second round.
The Bulldogs have some voids to fill on offense, but they have an experienced quarterback returning in Scotty Hosch, who split time last year with Auburn signee C.J. Uzomah. Hosch threw for 14 TDs and 1,006 yards as a junior.
North's strength is in its defense with eight players back who started in the front seven at one point or another last season. Big Jordan Washington (6-3, 260) and Justin Alabi are back on the line, where they will surround two strong noseguards in Jonathan Jones and Joseph Dillard. Justin Thomas, Alex Forrester, Steven Burger and Carl Rider all are experienced at the linebacker spots. Even the secondary is skilled, led by all-county defensive back Malcolm Jackson.
North has won both of its games at the Georgia Dome, last year's Corky Kell and the 2007 state semifinals.
