GRAYSON VS. KELL
Grayson Rams (8-AAAAA)
Coach: Mickey Conn
2010 record: 10-4
Last week: Season opener
Kell Longhorns (5-AAAA)
Coach: Derek Cook
2010 record: 12-1
Last week: Season opener
OUTLOOK
Kell, the only Class AAAAA team in the Corky Kell Classic, shocked Grayson in last year's opening game in a defensive battle. Conn was impressed with the Longhorns and with good reason. They were undefeated until losing to Statesboro in the AAAA quarterfinals.
Last year's game also was the first for a reloading Grayson team that had new faces littering the lineup. That's not the case this season.
The Rams enter the season with high hopes, as well as a national ranking, thanks to a strong finish to the 2010 season (a trip to the semifinals) and seven returning starters on offense. The returners on offense include starting quarterback Nick Schuessler and playmakers Korey Jones and Devin Gillespie.
There are plenty of new faces on defense, but the one back is 6-foot-4, 270-pound Robert Nkemdiche, considered one of the state's top junior prospects. Outside of Nkemdiche, the defense doesn't have a ton of size, but it's very quick.
Last meeting: Kell won 13-10 last year in the Corky Kell Classic
