Duluth Music Fest set for Saturday

DULUTH -- The city of Duluth presents the second annual Music Festival on Saturday with country artist Trent Tomlinson headlining the show. He has performed in the city numerous times.

"I've played at Wild Bill's there in Duluth," Tomlinson said. "I've never played an outside festival here, but I'm excited to because I have a great following here."

If you've never heard of him, he's a country boy from Kennett, Mo., who writes from life experiences. He has been working on a new album called "When I Get On a Roll" that he will be performing for the audience.

"It's the story of my life start to finish," Tomlinson said. "It's really country and I like to keep it that way."

Tomlinson isn't the only fun at the festival. Gwinnett Music School of Rock, MY SALSA -- Dance School, 116th Army Band, Metro Jazz Club, Full Circle, Harms Way and Covington's Hannah Thomas will perform throughout the day.

There will be three stages to watch acts from: the amphitheater stage, the Red Clay Theatre stage, and an Open Mic stage hosted by Open Mic Atlanta for any adventurous local musicians in the crowd.

The family-friendly event has a lot for the little ones. In the Kid Zone, children will find hands-on activities and inflatable jumps, plus face painting. Vendors from across the county will be present to talk to parents about their music schools and classes. The schools will have registration sheets for those interested.

The adults can browse through the Artist Market where regional artists will have paintings, pottery, jewelry and more displayed for purchase.

At 8:30 p.m., Tug from Kicks 101.5 FM's Cadillac and Dallas Morning Show will be giving away Meet and Greet passes for Tomlinson, who loves to meet his fans.

"I always try to do a meet and greet," Tomlinson said. "Sometimes I even let extra people come along. I bring people back to my tour bus and have fun."

Admission is free. Food and beverages -- including alcohol -- will be sold at the event. Water bottles are allowed in the festival, but no other containers. The concert ends at midnight.
