SUWANEE -- Class starts Monday for 331 new students at Georgia Campus--Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
In total, enrollment at the college is projected at 687 for the 2011-2012 academic year, compared to 86 students in attendance when the campus first opened in 2005.
New students of the college will be joined by 188 returning students in on-campus studies, while another 168 third- and fourth-year medical students will be involved in clinical experiences in doctors' offices and medical centers in Georgia and the southeast.
The college started six years ago offering one program: doctor of osteopathic medicine. Academic offerings have since expanded to include a four-year doctor of pharmacy degree, a biomedical science masters degree and a masters degree in organizational development and leadership.
In addition, Brenau University in Gainesville partners with PCOM to offer a masters degree in business administration with a health care emphasis for interested medical and pharmacy students and a masters degree in physician assistant studies.
Georgia Campus--Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine has 91 faculty and staff members, most of whom live in Gwinnett County. A majority of the student population also resides in Gwinnett County.
