Top 3 lead G-Braves past Yankees 4-2

SCRANTON, Pa. — Gwinnett’s No. 1 through 3 hitters combined to go 6-for-10 with an RBI and two runs scored as the G-Braves downed the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 4-2 to end the short road trip with a win.

Matt Young, Tyler Pastornicky and Stefan Gartrell led a G-Braves’ battery of bats that included two hits each from Wilkin Ramirez and Wilkin Castillo. Castillo homered in the fifth inning for his third of the year and Gartrell made it 79 RBIs on the season with his fifth-inning single. Gwinnett got on the board in the fourth inning, scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI ground-out by Diory Hernandez.

Starter Erik Cordier found his rhythm, pitching six two hit innings and allowing just one run. He struck out three and walked four. J.J. Hoover, recently promoted from Class AA Mississippi earned his first save in Class AAA, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings. He struck out three and walked just one. The bullpen effort, bolstered by 1 1/3 innings from Ben Swaggerty is good sign for the G-Braves who lost prospect Arodys Vizcaino to the big leagues Wednesday when Atlanta purchased the prospect’s contract and released Scott Proctor.
