Super (Blu-ray) (R)
Movie: 4 out of 4 stars Disc: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars Rightfully criticized by a few for being too violent and not the spoof comedy it appeared to be, “Super” starts out like a low-rent “Kick-Ass” but ultimately morphs into something more along the lines of “Taxi Driver” or “Death Wish.” Even though the pitch-black humor remains constant throughout, it’s all tempered by the message that being a vigilante can be hazardous to your health and there are far better ways to win back your ex-wife than whacking people upside the head with a monkey wrench. If you’re fond of droll and subversive, you’ll love it. If not, avoid. Technical specs: aspect ratio: Widescreen (1080p/1.85:1), audio: English (5.1 Dolby Digital), subtitles: English and Spanish. Special features include: • Filmmaker and actor commentary • Three featurettes • Making-of featurette • Deleted scenes • TV spot • Trailer (IFC, $29.98)More like this story
