Providence Christian senior Austin Loyd recently made a commitment to play baseball for Mercer University. He is the son of Randy and Maria Loyd.
Loyd, a varsity starter since his freshman season, hit .415 with seven home runs and 38 RBIs this past spring for the Class A state runner-up Stars. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder is a left-handed hitting shortstop who has helped Providence to two region championships the past three seasons.
Prior to Loyd's commitment, Providence had just one Division I baseball signee in its history - Joe Hammond to Presbyterian.
