Bolden commits to Ga. Tech basketball

The past six months have been plenty busy for Chris Bolden.

After helping the Norcross boys basketball team to the Class AAAAA state championship in March, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound wing guard initially verbally committed to play college ball at the University of Miami. He then de-commmited when Hurricanes head coach Frank Haith left for Missouri and later transferred to North Gwinnett for his senior year over the summer.

Bolden not only has found a new high school home, he has a new college destination to call home. Bolden gave a verbal commitment to Georgia Tech after visiting the campus in Atlanta last weekend.

"I had a good relationship with the coaches (at Tech)," Bolden said. "I also developed a relationship with the players. I liked the campus. And there's no place I'd rather go than home if (the school) has everything I want."

The senior guard becomes the first commitment of new Tech coach Brian Gregory's inaugural recruiting class by choosing the Yellow Jackets over ami, plus other suitors like Harvard, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Southern California.

Bolden was Norcross' leading scorer last season, averaging about 15 points per game, and added 1.9 assists per game in helping the Blue Devils to their fourth state title in the last six years before moving on over the summer to North, where he will join a strong nucleus for the 2011-12 season that includes fellow seniors and returning starters Kwesi Abakah and A.J. Clements.

"For sure, he's had a lot going on (the past few months)," Smith said of Bolden. "But I think he's really excited about Georgia Tech. It's a great fit for him, and the timing (for his commitment) is good for him, too."
